Job Description:

Specifications are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job.This position exists to receive incoming calls for assistance and perform radio dispatching activities for municipal police and emergency services; to receive and relay, by telephone, radio, and telecommunication equipment, and process requests for emergency services, and maintain accurate records.
Responsibilities:
- Receives telephone and radio requests for emergency services;
- Takes information by phone and radio and records details of crimes and accidents;
- Screens telephone calls for urgency;
- Enters information on computer;
- Receives and responds to routine telephone requests from the public for information;
- Ranks radio dispatches in priority order;
- Maintains constant awareness of locations of field personnel;
- Dispatches calls for patrol and fire personnel and other emergency services;
- Dispatches follow up units;
- Dispatches various units of the Public Services Department in the event of an emergency;
- Secures information and relays to field personnel; coordinates police personnel and equipment during routine and emergency situations;
- Dispatches calls for other public agencies in situations of emergency;
- Authenticates right-to-know identification; conducts records and warrant checks;
- Monitors alarm systems; .
Requirements:
- Ability to interpret and apply legal statutes and departmental polices;
- Ability to analyze and adopt a course of action in emergency situations;
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions;
- Ability to speak clearly and concisely;
- Knowledge of city geography;
- Working knowledge of police department organization structure;
- Ability to deal tactfully with the public and law enforcement personnel;
- Ability to use good judgement in prioritizing and screening request for service;
- Ability to operate computer and radio-telephone equipment;
- Ability to type at a net corrected rate of 40 wpm.
